South Brunswick Public Library Local History Links

A summary of the history of each area of town is available here. For example, the links related to Kendall Park cover the community's establishment for New York commuters in the 1950s. The description includes information on the purchase price, models, and property available to the post-war buyer, even providing figures on the G.I. loan program. The links included here would be a good place for students to begin exploring the collected history of the township. Students will need to sort through the different time periods discussed to focus on the 1950s and 1960s, but there are number of fascinating gems included here!

The South Brunswick Public Library Local History Collection lists the public library's holdings that might be of interest. The link for the New Jersey Digital Highway can be searched by area, time period, and type of resource.  It includes photos, maps, and documents.

Proquest Historical Newspapers

There are some gems here with the right keywords! By limiting the search to the decade and entering the keywords "Kendall Park" one can find many articles and ads for the planned community. I am forwarding you some examples via email, but there are plenty of examples and articles for students to explore on many of the topics listed. These may inform the students view on the local history.

ABC-Clio - Pop Culture Universe - this database offers an interesting collection of photos and primary source material for the 1950s. This could be a good source for students to use to get ideas for which entertainment/hobbies to explore locally.
