Short Stories
"Thoughts and Prayers" by Ken Liu - This story is long, but has some interesting passages about guilt that might offer good connections to the novel. Here is an article from Wired Magazine that offers a commentary on the content.
"The Story of An Hour" by Kate Chopin - I've always liked this story. I'm not sure it fits Goodbye Days completely, but I think it could offer an interesting counterpoint to a character's reaction to the death of someone close to them.
"The Visit" by Ray Bradbury - I can find a better copy of this text is you'd like to share it with students, but this story offers a different perspective on the guilt of a survivor. The main character is a man who has received the heart of the son of the woman who visits him.
