Project Gutenberg features over 60,000 books that can be downloaded as plain text files.
To access plain text, select a book, choose the Plain Text UTF-8. In the browser, Save As... text file.
Open Library offers a collection of sources that can be downloaded as plain text files. Most of these are classic novels and texts free of copyright restrictions.

Proquest allows all articles to be downloaded as plain text files.
To access plain text, select an article. On the article screen, select All Options, select Text Only.

Gale US History In Context features news articles from a number of publications.
To access plain text, select an article. Save the article to Google Drive. In Google Drive, choose File, Download, and choose Plain Text (.txt) to convert to plain text.
