Reader's Workshop –Grasping Main Ideas & Text Structures
In this unit, students will:
Learn about text structures and how they help us understand the text we are reading.
The features of expository and narrative nonfiction texts.
Learn how to determine the main idea of a text.
Be able to recount the key details and explain how they support the main idea.
Notice and use text features to add to our understanding of the text.
Writer’s Workshop – Changing the World
In this genre, students will learn what is persuasive writing. They will also learn how to create a thesis and how to collect ideas and use evidence to support their thesis.
Math- Investigations Unit 2 Travel Stories & Collections: In this unit, we worked hard on solving addition and subtraction story problems. We explored different strategies to help us add and subtract with confidence. We also discussed landmark numbers and how they can make solving problems easier.
Science: We have begun our first science unit on forces and motion. Students are becoming increasingly familiar with this new method of investigation, using their reasoning skills to explain how different forces influence outcomes. As we move forward, we will continue to explore, experiment, and deepen our understanding of forces and motion.
