Important Daily Information

Students must:

  • Wear masks covering their nose and mouth at all times.

  • Remain at least six feet apart and practice social distancing at all times

  • "Stay to the right" when walking in stairwells and hallways. Go directly to class.

  • Wear 2020-21 school-issued photo IDs on campus.

  • Fill out the daily Covid form on Genesis.

  • Show their entrance pass on their screen upon entering the building.

  • Wash their hands frequently and utilize hand sanitizer often.

  • Bring Chromebooks/laptops, chargers, and headphones to support online classwork.

  • Students must follow all directions from staff.

What time is my bus coming?

What do I do when I get off the bus?

BEFORE LEAVING YOUR HOME, fill in the COVID Questionnaire in Genesis. As you enter the building, have your COVID Questionnaire result displayed on your device and show it to the staff members. Go straight to your Block 1 classroom or to eat breakfast go to the Red/Blue Cafeteria Alcove.

How do I keep myself safe at school?

The following link was created by our nurses to help you understand ways to keep safe while at school. When walking in the hallways and stairwells stay to the right at all times.

What type of mask must I wear?

All students and staff are required to wear a mask/facial covering at SBHS. Please visit the CDC website for more information. We would also recommend that you bring in 1-2 spare masks/facial coverings each day you attend school in-person. Always good to have a back up mask.

If I come in late to school, where do I sign in?

1st block (7:30-7:39 AM) - Report directly to class

1st block (after 7:40 AM) - Sign in at the grade-level office

2nd - 4th blocks - Sign in at the attendance office (Room D100)

What do I need to do if I need to leave class/school early?

Both in-person and remote students:

Parents must email the grade level office.

Note - In-person students MUST pick up a pass from their grade-level office.

Is breakfast available for students?

Yes, in-person students may pick up breakfast upon arrival in the Red/Blue Cafeteria Alcove. Remote students follow the procedures that are in place for ordering breakfast/lunch.

IMPORTANT: All students are eligible for Chartwells breakfast free of charge.

  • If students are eating breakfast at school, they must do so in the Red Cafeteria.

  • Students will sit one per table. Social distancing is required at all times.

  • Students must wear masks whenever they are not eating or drinking.

Is hand sanitizer solution available?

Yes, there are hand sanitizer dispensers in hallways and in each classroom. Students should wash their hands often, as well as use hand sanitizer solution during each class.

Will students be using lockers?

No, lockers have not been assigned to students this year. Students are expected to bring their own belonging with them to and from class. If a student wants/needs a locker, please go to the grade level office and one will be assigned to you. As a reminder, students will be allowed to carry a backpack or shoulder bag to carry their belongings.

How will I be seated for instruction?

Most desks are color-coded in each classroom. Each color will represent a block. Your teachers will remind you which color to utilize. This color-coded system is not used in all classrooms and if you would like to clean your desk, there is a cleaning solution and paper towels available in each classroom.

How will attendance be taken?

  • Daily attendance will be taken by teachers in your classes.

  • If you have late arrival as a senior, please report to your HAP class at least 10 minutes prior to the end of first block for your attendance to be taken.

  • Attendance is very important and all students are expected to attend school - either virtually or in person every day.

If I am attending school in-person and need to stay home (ex: not feeling well), how will my attendance be taken and what will Genesis look like for my record?

A parent should call the attendance secretary to notify the school. If you are able to stay home and get online to take your courses virtually that day, you will be coded as a PV (Present-Virtually). If you are absent and cannot attend classes online, you will be coded as A (Absent). If you have a question, please contact our Attendance Secretary, Mrs. Melinda McGrory 732-329-4044 at ext. 3204 or 3225.

Which bathrooms will be available for students?

We will have one set of bathrooms open on each floor:

  • 1st floor bathrooms outside the auditorium - Block 1, 2, and 4

  • 1st floor Red/Blue and Annex Cafeteria bathrooms - Block 3

  • 2nd/3rd floor bathrooms near the bridge - All blocks

There will be a staff member there to monitor students. No more than 2-3 students will be allowed in a bathroom at once. Students will need to scan in using their photo IDs from this year. This will help with social distancing expectations. The bathrooms will be cleaned periodically by our custodial team.

Will I be required to wear a school photo ID?

Yes, all students MUST wear a current student ID for safety purposes.

If you forget your ID, you must report to C201 to obtain a new one.

Each new ID costs $5.00.

What should I do during passing time?

Students are required to go from one class to the next in a timely manner. Students are expected not to linger in hallways but should go to the next class and enter it, even if there is more passing time. This can be time for you to unplug and rest for a few minutes. Remember to stay to the right in our hallways and stairwells.

Will students be using the locker rooms or changing for physical education classes?

No. Students will be informed by their PE teachers to dress appropriately and wear proper footwear on days they have PE class.

What will lunches look like?

  • All students are eligible for Chartwell's breakfast, snack, and lunch daily at no cost.

  • Following our current schedule, students will not be eating lunch in the building.

  • If student athletes are staying at school to wait for practice, they will do so in the Red Cafeteria.

  • We will randomly check student temperatures during lunch.

  • Students will sit one per table. Social distancing is required at all times.

  • Students must wear masks whenever they are not eating or drinking.

Can I see my counselor during school hours?

Students should email counselors with all questions regarding academics. Students will not be allowed to leave class to see counselors regarding academic issues. Counselors will issue passes as needed.

If the concern is other than academic, the teacher will send the student to the grade level office for assistance.

How can I see the nurse?

If a student requests to go to the nurse the teacher must call the main nurses office to advise the nurses of the student's request.

If a student is displaying any COVID-like symptoms the teacher may ask the student confidentially how they are feeling and advise they see the nurse. A phone call should follow to let the nurses know the student will be coming to the health office for evaluation.

What will daily dismissal look like?

The school day pauses at 12:00 PM on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday.
On Wednesday, the school day ends at 12:00 PM.

  • Students are expected to report directly to their busses/vehicles upon dismissal.

  • Masks must be worn at all times on busses.

  • If a parent is picking up a student at the 12:00 PM dismissal times, pick up must take place in the front of the building main entrance side in the teacher lot

  • On Early Release days, athletes may remain in the building and report to the Red Cafeteria until practice begins.

Can I switch from in-person to virtual instruction or from virtual to in-person instruction?

You can switch from in-person to virtual instruction. However you will need to request and will need to be approved to switch from virtual to in-person instruction. Please email michael.scheese@sbschools.org with any requests for either in-person or virtual.
