School Supplies:

Required school supplies for second grade are as follows:

Pencils and markers will be shared by the class.  If they are special for your child’s use only, please keep them at home.

Please do NOT send in - pencil cases or 3-ring binders

Daily Chromebook Use

The children will bring their own Chromebook or other laptop to school each day.  It should be charged at home each night.  If you need a Chromebook:

Please complete GOOGLE FORM and pay insurance fee (The yearly insurance fee is $40 and due by September 29, 2023. This can be paid online through MySchoolBucks. This fee is waived for those receiving free or reduced lunch.)

BIRTHDAYS

The school policy is as follows: We love to recognize children’s birthdays.  However, NO FOOD, BALLOONS  or GOODY BAGS are permitted for these celebrations. If you would like your child’s birthday to be recognized, please reach out to your child’s teacher at least one week in advance. Your child’s teacher will share the way(s) in which birthdays will be recognized in class.

In school, our class policy is this:  Your child will feel special on his or her birthday!

1) The class will make a card for your child with paper in the color your child chooses.

2) We will sing to your child.

3) Your child can pick 2 items from the birthday drawer - crowns, certificates, pencils, and stickers!

Invitations to birthday celebrations are not to be distributed at school, unless there is one for every child in the class.

SCHOLASTIC BOOK CLUBS

I will frequently send home a Scholastic Book Club flyer. It is not mandatory that you purchase books at any time, but it is an excellent opportunity for you to buy books at a great price for your child. Also, our class is rewarded with books and other classroom materials. If you choose to purchase books, you will have two choices for doing so. You can choose to fill out the order form on the back of the flyer and send it in an envelope with a check made out to Scholastic Book Clubs or you may order books from our class account on the website and pay by credit card online (www.scholastic.com).

Our online code is GL3CH.

STAR STUDENTS

Each child will have a week to be the student of the week (Star Student). The children will have a poster project to complete in advance of the week and the children will share about themselves all week.  I will send the schedule for the Star Students in late September.  Email me if you wish to request a specific week.

HOMEWORK

Beginning on the third week of school, your child will have homework every night (Monday through Thursday).   Most weeks, there will be spelling (Fundations) practice to be completed with an adult at home.  This will come home each Monday and be due back at school each Friday.  Reading for 15 minutes is required each night. 2-3 times a week, I will also send math homework that will be due back at school the next day.  Overall, homework will take about 20 minutes per night.

Our Schedule -

The children will have a few minutes to eat ONE SMALL SNACK (nut free) every day at about 10:40 am.  Please do not send in multiple items.  The children will simply not have time to eat them.  The children are encouraged to drink water throughout the day.  Be sure your child brings a refillable water bottle, labeled with your child's name, to school each day.
