Special Requirements
Students traveling to Spain are often in situations where no one speaks English. To apply for this program, students must be enrolled in at least Spanish 3 during the academic year in which they will be going abroad and they must demonstrate proficiency in spoken Spanish. Parents and students should note that living conditions may be different than our standards in the USA and program participants will have to be adaptable and flexible.
Program Description
Students will live with Spanish families and attend our partner school, Colegio Montessori, located in Salamanca, Spain. This exchange first began in 2006. The program will include some sightseeing within Spain including the capital city of Madrid.
Hameln, Germany

Enrollment in German is not required; however, some preference will be given to students currently enrolled in German and who will be enrolled in the academic year in which they will be going abroad.
Program Description
Students will be hosted by our partner school in Hameln, Germany. Hameln is the historic town of the Pied Piper in northern Germany not far from Hannover. Our relationship with our partner school, the Schiller Gymnasium, began in 1974. Students have been exchanged regularly since then, and several faculty members and the principals of both SBHS and Schiller Gymnasium have participated in the program as chaperones. The program will include a few days of travel in Munich and Berlin.
Périgueux, France

Program Description
Students will live with French families and attend our partner school, the Lycée Laure Gatet, located in Périgueux. This exchange began in 1980 and continues strong today. While at the lycée, students attend classes and deliver projects in French about the U.S. and Vermont and also take several field trips to places of interest near Périgueux. Students will spend a few days in Paris before their home stay in Périgueux.
Otaru, Hokkaido, Japan

Program Description
Students will be hosted by our partner school in Otaru, Japan. Otaru is located on the western shore of the northern island of Hokkaido. This will be our 8th exchange with Futaba High School. Students participate in classes at the school and deliver projects in English about aspects of life in the United States and Vermont. They will also participate in several field trips to sites of interest in and around Otaru. Before arriving in Otaru, students will spend a few days in the historic city of Kyoto and in Hiroshima.
