Through stories, videos, projects and practice we learn to be kind to ourselves, others and our community. We may put positive signs around the school, recognize when a peer is being kind, or learn how to stay in the "green Zone." Some lessons are adapted from Random Acts of Kindness
Though games and challenges, students are placed into situations where they have to work together in small groups or whole class to accomplish a task. While they believe the goal of the activity is to complete the task, it is really about working on our social and emotional skills. Seeing someone else's perspective, allowing others to have ideas, advocating for our own ideas, feeling frustrated and staying kind, and working with someone I don't get along with are all the goals of these activities.
Though lesson from Mind Up, Calm Classroom, Ready Set Relax, and SuperFlex students are able to build their self regulating toolbox. Let's face it, being a child is stressful. As they grow older the sources of stress may change and with practice the health ways they learn to manage this feeling will always be there.
