A developmental school counseling program is an integral part of a student's educational program and is important to every student's academic success. The program is not only preventative but proactive in nature designed to impact all students. The school counselor works closely with our behavior coaches and school clinicians to support all students and families.
Whole class Personal Development or Guidance classes, are delivered in blocks typically once a week for 6 weeks. Lessons are provided to all students so they have an opportunity to further develop knowledge, attitudes and skills needed to achieve academic success, college and career readiness and social/emotional development. Whenever possible the lessons are experiential and play-based.
As part of a comprehensive school counseling program, small group and individual counseling sessions are also offered. These sessions are designed to help students develop skills with areas of difficulty that might be interfering with their academic and social emotional learning. Individual and small group counseling are typically short-term.
