Course Descriptions
The science program offers strong traditional science courses such as Physics, Biology, and Chemistry. Offered electives include Environmental Science, Anatomy and Physiology, AP classes and Science centered Project Lead the Way (PLTW) classes. The technology program offers future-focused and interactive courses such as Computer Science, Engineering and Design, Graphic Design, TV/Media Production, Robotic Engineering and engineering centered Project Lead the Way classes. While all of the science courses offered have a laboratory component, colleges and universities traditionally consider Physics, Biology, and Chemistry as single‑discipline lab courses serving as the foundation of the science program.
Science and technology department requirements for progression to the next course sequence are as follows:
Honors or Advanced College Prep
A cumulative grade of D or D+ (65 – 69) in an honors or advanced college prep course indicates serious weakness even though the student has earned the credits and has minimally passed the course. Students with these grades have the following options:
Drop to a lower level science sequence
Pass summer school with at least a 70, earn no additional credits but raise the cumulative average on the high school transcript to a 70, and continue in the sequence at the same level.
Students in honors or advanced college prep with a cumulative grade of U (50 – 64) should go to summer school, and pass with 70 or higher to bring the final grade on the high school record to 65, earn the credits, and take the next science course. Failure to go to summer school requires the student to repeat the course.
ANY LEVEL
A student who earns a cumulative grade below 50 in any level must repeat the course at the same level or at a lower level (if available) – completion of summer school will not earn any credit or grade change; however, a student may enroll in summer school for remediation.
To advance to a higher level in any course a student must earn a prerequisite grade of B+ at the present level of study.
