In addition to teaching the 6 Pillars of Character the Guidance Department is excited to launch a new Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Program called Second Step! We will provide classroom lessons on the following content;
Unit 1: September & October- Growth Mindset and Goal Setting (i.e. Showing a positive attitude, using growth mindset language, setting goals to improve skills)
Unit 2: November, December & January- Emotion/Self Management (i.e. identify familiar feelings form contextual and behavioral clues, name & apply emotion management strategies)
Unit 3: February & March- Empathy & Kindness (i.e. recognize the kind acts of others, recognize their own kind acts, demonstrate things they can say or do to demonstrate kindness)
Unit 4: April & May- Problem Solving/Relationship Skills & Responsible Decision Making (i.e. manage strong emotions to remain calm before solving problems, stating the problem, demonstrate apologizing, taking turns and sharing as solutions to problems)
At the conclusion of each Unit teachers will nominate students who have demonstrated the skills to get their picture hung up on our Legendary Leader Hallway of Fame Bullentin Board!
Long Memorial School Legendary Leaders Program identifies students who demonstrate qualities of the Six Pillars of Character; Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring and Citizenship. Each of The Six Pillar of Character traits are used to help instill a positive school climate and a culture of kindness.
