Are Dogs ColorBlind?

Have you ever looked at your dog and wondered if they can see what color shirt you are wearing?

Have you ever wondered if a dog is color blind? I have alway wondered if my dog can see the color of her chew toy or her water bowl. I will be testing my question with my pure breed rottweiler, she's 2 years old. As a kid, I was always told that dogs are colorblind. And today I would like to find out if they really are. With my project, I hope to find that dogs are not color blind and that they can see the pretty colors on earth. I don't think that my dog will be able to see all the colors but I think she will be able to see most of them. Over the years she has gotten a lot of toys and she really likes certain ones. Her favorite toy is a little fox which is a stuffed animal it is brown and has a white nose. And I think that she might love it because of its color. If it does then I will buy her that color chew toy and water bowl. With my project, I am hoping to find that dogs are not color blind and that they can see color. To find my answer I'm going to put food in different colored dog bowls and see which one she goes to first. I will repeat this multiple times to make sure I get a consistent answer, and not just random. I hope that I will be able to learn a little more about my dog and what colors she can see with this experiment.

All dogs can be traced back 40 million years ago to a weasel-like animal called the Miacis which dwelled in trees and dens. The Miacis later evolved into the Tomarctus, a direct forbear of the genus Canis, which includes the wolf and jackal as well as the dog.[8]
