Dr. Sarah Cioffi has spent 36 years in education, including 16 years in leadership positions at Scotia-Glenville, Bethlehem, and Shenendehowa school districts in the Capital Region of New York State. She is the former K-12 administrator for ENL and World Languages at Shenendehowa CSD, the largest suburban district in upstate New York, and a district which experienced a 900% increase in its ELL student population over the course of 12 years.
Dr. Cioffi sits on the NYS ELL Leadership Council, the NYS World Language Leadership Council, and the NYS Seal of Biliteracy Task Force, and is the founder and former director of the Capital Region ENL Roundtable and Capital Area Language Leaders.
Dr. Cioffi is a visiting lecturer in the MAT program at Bard College; and teaches in the MAT-TESOL program at Siena University, where she also sits on the MAT Program Advisory Board. She serves as a direct consultant for multiple urban, suburban, and rural school districts across New York State and at Capital Region and Questar III BOCES. She has presented or led trainings at NYS-TESOL, the NYS Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD), the School Administrators' Association of NYS (SAANYS), the Capital Area School Development Association (CASDA), the New York State Association for Women in Administration (NYSAWA), the Empire State Supervisors' and Administrators' Association (ESSAA), and the Bard Early College Programs in Manhattan and Queens.Â
Dr. Cioffi's area of research is on the roles, responsibilities, and needs of content-area teachers of English Language Learners. She is the recipient of the Stub Baker 1927 Award from Clarkson University for exemplary service and commitment; the NYS Council of School Superintendents' Past Presidents' Scholarship Award; and the NYS-TESOL Educator of the Month Award. She is also a member of the Phi Kappa Phi National Honor Society.
