The research says...
English language/Multilingual learners are the fastest-growing population in U.S. schools today.
New York State has the third-highest population of children of immigrant families, and the fourth-highest population of school-aged ELLs/MLLs.
Yet...
Most teachers, especially general education and content area teachers, received little or no training in teaching ELLs/MLLs in their pre-service teacher preparation programs.
Most school administrators have had little or no training in leading schools with ELLs/MLLs.
ELL/MLL students bring a wealth of diverse knowledgeÂ
and experiences to our schools, yet they remainÂ
an underserved population with many and various academic and social needs that schools are responsible for addressing.
