Model 5 Mark answer….
St. Augustine of Hippo in his writings Confessions, teaches that God created the universe out of nothing, this is known as creation ex nihilo, the belief that only God can create out of nothing “you created this thing out of nothing”. Catholics believe there was nothing in existence for him to create the world, as stated in Augustine’s Confession ‘there was nothing from which you could make heaven and earth’. Therefore, Catholics believe that God created everything. There was no water, land, air, light or dark, but also, there was no time or space ‘You were, and besides you nothing was’. Therefore God is eternal, transcendent, and responsible for everything that we have, and only God can create out of nothing as he omnipotent, the belief that God is all powerful, as Augustine says ‘For there is nothing that you cannot do ‘. Thus Christians believe that God created the world ‘from nothing’.
