Privacy Policy for Focus Guard
Last updated: August 22, 2026
Focus Guard is a browser extension that shows a brief pause/warning page
before you visit a website you've added to your own personal "distraction
list." This policy explains what data the extension handles and how.
WHAT DATA FOCUS GUARD STORES
Focus Guard stores only the following, directly on your device (and, if
you're signed into Chrome, synced through your own Google account via
Chrome's built-in storage — the same way your bookmarks or settings sync):
- The list of websites (domains and, optionally, specific page paths)
you choose to add to your distraction list.
- A temporary, per-tab note of which of those sites you've already
chosen to "continue to" during your current browsing session, so you
aren't shown the warning page again for that same tab until you close
it.
Focus Guard does not collect, store, or transmit your general browsing
history, the content of pages you visit, or any personally identifying
information. There are no user accounts, no analytics, and no tracking of
any kind built into the extension.
WHAT FOCUS GUARD CAN SEE, TECHNICALLY
To do its job, Focus Guard's background script checks the destination URL
of a page before it loads, to compare it against your own distraction
list. This check happens locally, is not logged anywhere, and is not sent
to any server.
THIRD-PARTY SERVICES
- Fonts: the extension's pages load two fonts ("Inter" and "Lora") from
Google Fonts. As a standard side effect of loading any web resource,
this sends your IP address to Google's font-hosting servers. Focus
Guard itself does not collect or see this information. You can read
Google's own privacy policy at https://policies.google.com/privacy.
- Donation link: the "Pay it forward" button on the warning and settings
pages links out to a third-party donation page (Buy Me a Coffee). This
link only opens if you click it, and any information you provide
there is handled directly by that service, not by Focus Guard. See
https://www.buymeacoffee.com/legal/privacy-policy for their policy.
DATA SHARING
Focus Guard does not sell, rent, or share any user data with third
parties. Nothing collected by the extension is used for advertising,
credit scoring, lending decisions, or any purpose unrelated to showing you
the pause page you've configured.
CHILDREN'S PRIVACY
Focus Guard is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect
data from anyone.
CHANGES TO THIS POLICY
If this policy changes, the "Last updated" date above will be revised.
Material changes will also be reflected in the extension's Chrome Web
Store listing.
