The FSA ID allows students and parents to identify themselves electronically to access Federal Student Aid websites. It’s the fastest way to sign your application and have it processed. It’s also the only way to access or correct your information online, or to prefill an online FAFSA form with information from your previous year’s FAFSA form.
An FSA ID is made up of a username and password and can be used to log into the online Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®) form.
Both the student and the parent need a separate FSA ID.
To apply for financial aid, students must file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form. This form can be filled out after October 1st of the student's senior year. Each college/university has a priority deadline to apply, so make sure to complete the FAFSA by that time. Upon completion, the information will be sent to the financial aid office of the chosen college/university. Families will receive a financial aid award letter sometime in the second half of senior year. There is no obligation to accept financial aid and families can take only what they need. However, a student can not get financial aid without completing the FAFSA form.
