Physical Education Rules & Procedures
9th-12th
1. Grading:
Each day you will be evaluated for class based on 4 criteria which are attitude, effort & participation and punctuality.
Attendance will be taken using a card system. Upon entering the gym, students will find their card and hand it to the teacher. If a student is late coming into class and is not in line at the start of warm ups, they will lose a point off of their daily points for tardiness.
Physical Education is a semester class. You will receive a final grade in both January and June. NYS requires that you have 2 credits of Physical Education to graduate. You can receive 1/4 credits each semester. If you fail a semester, you will then be doubled up the following semester.
2. Unprepared:
Changing for class is optional, however you MUST be wearing sneakers to participate in class. If you are not wearing sneakers, you will not be allowed to participate and will be considered "unprepared" for class. Each time you are unprepared for class, you will receive 0 points for the day. However, if you do not have sneakers but walking is an option, you will be asked to walk for partial credit for class.
After the 3rd time you are unprepared, your teacher will write you a referral.
An unprepared can be made up, however, when making up an unprepared, you will only be allowed to earn partial credit for that class. The unprepared class can only be made up within the same unit in which the unprepared occurred (example, if you were unprepared during the track unit, you would have to make it up before the track unit is over). This will also be limited to 3 times per quarter.
3. Make-up:
Absences need to be made-up. You can come in during 9th period or study hall. Make-ups are limited to 1 make-up per day (periods 1-8)
4. Medical Conditions:
-
If you have a doctor's note, it must be brought to the nurse's office. They will then give you a copy to give to us. A doctor's note will excuse you from class, but we may have you participate in class in other ways (score keeper, referee etc) to receive credit for the class. If there is no way to incorporate you into the class, then a written assignment will be assigned.
Parents may write you a note if you are not feeling well but it will only be good for 1 class. If you need to sit out longer than 1 class, a doctor's note will be required. A class that is missed with a parent's note will be required to be made up (same as an absence).
5. Lockers:
-
Lockers are for athletes only, currently on a sports team. If you are on a sports team, you may bring in a lock and sign out a locker with a Physical Education teacher. The lock may remain on for the entire season and must be removed at the end of the season. Lockers will be cleaned out in between seasons.
The lockers are not school lockers. Do not leave your books and school supplies in your sports lockers. You will not be permitted into the locker room once class has begun.

6 Valuables & Electronic Devices:
Valuables should not be brought to class. If you do bring something valuable and it gets stolen, the school district is not responsible. If you do not have a locker, you may give your valuables to a teacher to be locked up, this includes electronic devices.
Phones, air pods etc should not be seen during class. If these items are seen being used during class, they will be taken for the class period. If this occurs multiple times, a referral will follow up as well.
7. Student Athletes:
Student athletes MUST participate in PE in order to participate in their game or practice that day.
