This is an elective class that will evaluate, research, analyze and discuss topics that relate to our society. The course is largely based on participation and discussion that will involve activities (some in class), projects and current topics. Some students may need this ½ credit for graduation.
ASSIGNMENTS:(35%)
All assignments are posted on the board and sent out through REMIND at the beginning of the week. Some assignments will need to be handed in at the beginning of class on the day they are due. Others may need to be submitted online by a designated time through Schoology. Assignment grades are based on quality and completeness. Assignments turned in late without an acceptable excuse are -10 each day. Assignments are not accepted 7 days after the due date.
There will be assignments that you will be expected to complete during class that will be graded. Some in class activities cannot be made up due to absence and will result in
STUDENTS WILL BE PROVIDED ACCESS TO VIEW THEIR GRADES THROUGH SCHOOLOGY. IT IS ALSO STRONGLY ENCOURAGED THAT YOU UTILIZE THE REMIND TEXT/ EMAIL.
PROJECTS:(40%)
They will vary in length, so the time allotted will be at my discretion and will be announced when the project is introduced. You have 7 school days after the project was due to turn it in, each day late results in the loss of 10 points. Failing to complete projects will result in failure of the course.
IF YOU ARE ABSENT FROM CLASS, BUT IN SCHOOL ON THE DAY AN ASSIGNMENT OR PROJECT IS DUE, YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR TURNING IT IN OR IT WILL BE COUNTED AS LATE OR NOT ACCEPTED!
Participation: (25%)
This class relies on your in-class participation in the discussions and activities. Absences include all of the following (illness, music rotation, nurse visitation, field trips, school events [e.g. blood drive donations], meetings with other teachers/administrators, etc.).Excessive absences will negatively impact your grade.
It is your RESPONSIBILITY to find out what work you missed after being absent from school. Please check the wall rack regularly for necessary papers that were distributed and ask if anything was collected. Assignments must be made up within 5 days of the absence. To avoid loss of credit it is important to write “absent” at the top of your paper.
I will accept work sent by email to my school account (on front page). HOWEVER: the student accepts ALL responsibility for assignments turned in using e-mail. Most electronic assignments will be completed using SCHOOLOGY.
1. The assignment is on-time/late based upon my emails/Schoology timestamp.
2. “Technology Excuses” (wrong address, computer crashed, loss of power, the printer does not work, etc.)will not be accepted. Don’t procrastinate!!
Any assignment or project in which a student has plagiarized work, copied another student’s assignment ( in which case both students will receive a zero) will result in an immediate zero.
Cutting class results in a zero for whatever work is scheduled to be completed or due for class that day.
