Homework:
Students are expected to complete homework on time and to the best of their ability. You will find that the homework load in 6th grade is fairly light, with generally no more than 30-60 minutes of homework per night. Because we try to build in time during the day to work on assigned homework, many students are able to finish most, if not all of their work in school. We do this so students are not overburdened at home, and have access to a teacher if they need assistance.
If an assignment is not completed the student will be expected to make every effort to complete the work by the following day so as not to fall behind. Students who have chronic homework issues will be asked to either stay after school or stay in for recess to complete the work. If a student is unable to complete their homework due to reasons beyond their control, a note from home explaining the situation would be helpful for verification purposes and to determine an appropriate course of action.
Students will receive a homework/effort grade per quarter based on the following criteria:
(100) = missed 1 or fewer assignments
(75) = missed 2-4 assignments
(50) = missed 5 or more assignments
Discipline:
Students will be redirected and/or warned when possible. Minor issues may result in recess or after school detention. If a student is struggling with repeated behavior issues, a phone call home will be made and an appropriate course of action will be discussed. Severe cases will be directed to the principal to be handled according to district policy.
