Being RESPONSIBLE
Becoming INDEPENDENT LEARNERS
Entering ADULTHOOD
Communication must be a two-way street throughout the school year. It is critical that both teacher and parent/guardian be responsible for communicating information that you or I may want or need. I prefer that you contact me via email. I am also accessible by phone, however, it is more difficult to return a phone call than an email. Communication occurs in various forms. Progress reports and report cards are considered communication. The numerical grades and the comments teachers put on progress reports and report cards are informative and often provide accurate information in a brief format. I do not provide daily or weekly updates unless specifically called for in a student’s IEP. I will send group and/or individualized emails to students and/or parents when I feel they are necessary. Examples of such times might be when a test/quiz is upcoming, a project has been assigned, or the end of a quarter is nearing. Parents need to be involved in the communication process. Parents should attend open house, attend teacher/parent conference night, and email and/or call me with any questions or concerns as soon as they arise. Please don’t wait until halfway through the school year to ask questions or seek information that may be helpful to you or your child.

***DO NOT USE A SAUGERTIES FOLDER AS YOUR NOTEBOOK***
I have observed over many years that using a Saugerties folder as a primary notebook for classes is counterproductive and detrimental to students' academic success. Students often shove papers into these folders without any method of organization. Students are regularly wasting valuable class time searching through their folder for assignments and materials. Using these folders causes students to miss instruction, misplace materials needed for class, lose assignments that need to be submitted for a grade, etc. I cannot stress enough that students who experience difficulties with organization should NOT use a Saugerties folder for their class materials. Students with organization issues should be using a 3 ring binder that is divided into sections for each class. Every classroom is equipped with a 3-hole puncher that students should use to maintain an orderly binder. As a class completes a unit, chapter, or story/novel students can remove those materials and assignments and store them either at home or in a designated location in school.
I strongly suggest that students utilize the following supplies:
3 ring binder that has a 3 inch spine
plastic dividers - one for each class
loose leaf paper
pens - blue or black ink

About Me
Aloha! I come from a long line of frontiersmen and outdoorsmen. I've toured the world with the International Pie Eaters Association since I was six years old. When I'm not participating in renaissance fairs, I can be found spending time with friends dressing up as our favorite hair metal bands. I'm generally a pretty antisocial fella and don't wonder what your kids' favorite foods are. I strive to be the "Big Toe" that my former Seargent Hulka was in my younger years.
