PHILOSOPHY

My goal as the John Fuller librarian is to teach learners how to access materials, as well as provide opportunities to think creatively and critically to enhance and broaden their knowledge. I believe that the library is an interest based environment, where learners are encouraged to look at a book to see if it’s a good fit for them. Supporting this theory, I will not prevent anyone from checking out a book as I believe that we often learn best by making “mistakes” and that finding what piques your interest as a reader is a lifelong skill I hope my learners develop. Furthermore, I encourage guardian(s) to engage with his/her/their child in conversations about books and what they are reading and learning. The library is open every day and learners can return books on any day of the week if they finish it early or find it not to their interest. In addition, I believe that the guardian(s) can instruct his/her/their child on what to check out, but that is a private conversation between guardian/child.
