When Columbus reached the Bahamas he thought that he was somewhere off the coast of Asia. or India (which is a part of Asia.) Because of this he mistakenly called the natives Indians. The Natives were very nice and helpful. Giving them foods spices and other things. The Pinta was off exploring another land in what we now call Cuba. Columbus and some of his crew were on the Nina and the Santa maria. Late in the night one night, the Santa maria hit a coral reef and crumbled apart. He and his crew found many things in the new land. some of these things include ball Peppers, palm trees, Parrots, palm trees, and the Natives gave him a tobacco plant as a gift. He was then taught that these leaves of the plat could be dried rolled up and smocked. The natives introduced hammocks to the crew this was big because people were getting sick because of sleeping an the wet cold floor.
