Summary
On Friday, August 3, 1492, Christopher Columbus began his journey to find Asia. Later that night, he and his crew set sail for the Canary Islands, because it was a good source of wood, water, and meat. While one of his ships was under repair, Columbus had already sailed to Gomera Island and back. On September 2, 1492, all three ships came into view at Gomera's San Sebastian Bay. Then, on September 6, Christopher Columbus set sail again. The wind (and water) were very still. Finally, at 3:00 a.m. on the 9th of September, the winds picked up. The crew and Columbus were out of sight of the Canary Islands.
