Summary: (PARAGRAPH FORM, Who, What, Where, When, Why)
On January 6th 1493 Columbus decided it was time to head home. The Pinta had finally returned from it's 6 and a half week expedition alone. This trip came home to a gruesome sight. The Nina had smashed into the coral reef of the bay the crew had anchored in.
My opinion on the changing of "Columbus Day's name" is very strewn around. On one side I'm all for changing the name, Columbus was a cruel and greedy man. He shouldn't get recognition for lying to his crew, discriminating the islanders, and "discovering America" when humans had been there all along. However on the other hand I still do respect Columbus for trusting his instincts and going for this trip of a lifetime. If he hadn't we all could've been living in separate locations in different countries. Possibly not knowing about the Americas or the Caribbean at all. As you can tell, my opinion on this topic is ever changing so I couldn't give you a straight answer. But I certainly know I still want Columbus Day off from school!
