Classwork Information
For the weeks of January 19 and 26, 2026
This week students will be learning all about the kingdoms of Western Africa in the middle ages. We will cover the Mali Empire, the Ghana Empire, and the Songhai Empire.
Students will be learning about the important rulers of these empires, how their governments functioned, and other important historical moments during these time periods.
Daily Agendas: Here are the Daily Agendas for our mini Styles of Writing Unit that we'll be working on until February Break.
Homework Expectations: Students should be completing 20 minutes of reading Monday - Thursday. Students can choose to read a physical book, ebook, audiobook, newspaper, magazine, etc. They have time during the school day to go down to the library and/or pick a book from my classroom library. They also have access to an online book platform called Sora that has ebooks, audiobooks, and magazines that they should be familiar with at this point.
Hello All!
Happy December!
We are starting Unit 4 which reviews unit rates in the beginning of the unit and then focuses on percentages and other types of percent problems. For example, tax, tip, discounts, as well as percent increase or decrease.
We should be finishing this unit right before the holiday break at the end of the month. I plan to give the Unit 4 Summative Dec 18 & 19th.
Math Team -- Practice will continue during class if students have extra time, as well as during Hawk Times on Tuesday and Wednesdays. THURSDAY MORNINGS from 7:15-7:45 will be the time for Math Team practice if students cannot make the Hawk Time blocks.
Our MathCounts meet will be in February at Keene State college. The top 12 students will be invited to join for the day long competition. We leave before 8:00 am and will return around 3:00pm.
Pre-Algebra
Pre- Algebra work continues to happen during class as well as Hawk Time blocks on Tuesday and Wednesdays. Pre-Algebra time will also be available on THURSDAY MORNINGS from 7:15-7:45 along with the math team work. The current unit 4 in 7th grade class, has a lot of overlap with the Pre-Algebra content, so Pre-Algebra students should find the work is very similar.
Liz Kovar
Our current unit of study is cytology (the study of cells). The focus of this unit includes:
all organisms are made cells and these cells complete all of life's functions (photosynthesis and cellular respiration)
cells are made of organelles (cells parts) that allow the cell to function
Here is the LINK to the daily agenda. Ever wonder the types of questions students have? Here is a LINK that shares the list of questions students developed that I use to plan out the lessons in the unit.
Reminder: students should come to class with their science binder, science journal, writing utensil, planner, Chromebook (in its case), and homework when applicable.
In mid-December students demonstrated their knowledge of clothing vocabulary by drawing well-dressed elves and describing them to their classmates. Students also wrote a short story that included descriptions of clothing, arrival times at school and/or home, and included many of the verbs they have acquired including is, has, walks, runs, opens, closes, wears, and sees.
We learned about French holiday traditions and decorated (and ate!) everyone's favorite holiday treat: Bûche de Noël.
In January, we have begun expanding our school supply vocabulary, are practicing asking to borrow these in French, and will discuss our hopes for the future using "Je veux" (I want).
Herzlich Willkommen in Deutsch 7!
Welcome to German 7. Students are just beginning to learn the sounds and spelling of German words. Students have finished up their unit on descriptions of themselves and where they are from. When we return from break we will be starting a unit on school. What's in your backpack? What's in the classroom? Which supplies do you need for which classes?
Practicing vocabulary continues to be essential to leveling up their language skills. Students have new Quizlet sets on Google Classroom and they should be studying 10-15 minutes of old and new vocabulary per day!
¡Felices Fiestas! This winter, we compared holiday traditions in Spain and the U.S. Why do Spaniards eat 12 grapes on New Year's Eve? How are the Three Kings different from Santa?
In January and February, we will be studying the famous Spanish-language children's song "Los pollitos dicen" ("The little chicks say"). In English, chicks say "peep peep," but in Spanish, they say "pío pío." Students will learn how onomatopoeia differs across languages. Dogs say "woof woof" in English, but "guau guau" in Spanish! Students will practice building simple sentences to describe animals, their habitats, their likes/dislikes, and their sounds. At the end of this unit, students will be able to write a creative story about an animal encounter!
To get ready for Bad Bunny's Super Bowl halftime performance, we studied his use of the sapo concho (a Puerto Rican toad) on his album cover. What does this animal symbolize?
11/25: REMINDER: Our concert has moved to DECEMBER 18th still starting at 7:00pm Students need to arrive by 6:45pm. Practice Logs will be due Tuesday 12/9. We had quite a few chorus students try out for solos yesterday! We can't wait until the concert to show you all the great work we have been doing!
