Classwork Information
For the weeks of November 17th and 24th, 2025
This week students will be learning all about the inventions of medieval China! They will be doing a "Shark Tank" activity where they will pitch their assigned invention to the class.
Students will be working on this throughout the week and may need to work on/prepare for their presentations outside of class. All guidelines for this assignment can be found on our Google Classroom page.
Daily Agendas: Here are the Daily Agendas for our unit studying Gary Schmidt's The Labors of Hercules Beal.
While all students will receive a hard copy of the book, students are welcome to use the audiobook version to enhance their reading experience. The audiobook version can be found on Sora & Libby (although they may encounter waitlists because only so many copies are available) or on Hoopla (instant download for 21 days - just need to sign in with town library card). *Reading the class text can count towards their reading homework time.*
Homework Expectations: Students should be completing 20 minutes of reading Monday - Thursday. Students can choose to read a physical book, ebook, audiobook, newspaper, magazine, etc. They have time during the school day to go down to the library and/or pick a book from my classroom library. They also have access to an online book platform called Sora that has ebooks, audiobooks, and magazines that they should be familiar with at this point.
Hello All!
Happy November!
We are starting Unit 3 which is all about Circles! We will link the proportional equations we studied in Units 1 & 2 with equations used when finding circumferences and areas of different circles.
We should be finishing this unit right before the holiday break at the end of the month.
Math Team has started practices! Each week math team students will receive a packet of questions to practice. We will meet in the morning before school on Tuesdays and Fridays, from 7:15 - 7:45. Team members need only to join one of these meetings.
Our MathCounts meet will be in February at Keene State college. The top 12 students will be invited to join for the day long competition. We leave before 8:00 am and will return around 3:00pm.
Pre-Algebra
I am offering all students a chance to work on Pre-Algebra content this year, in addition to your 7th grade work :). The link below is to the Pre-Algebra classroom. This will be a separate classroom for just the Pre-Algebra notes and assignments. By working on the pre-algebra content, you will better prepare yourself for the Algebra class next year as an 8th grader. This does not mean you are automatically in the Algebra class. We look at test scores from Aimsweb (three scores during the year) as well as SAS scores in the spring and Unit Test scores from the whole year to best place all students. Additionally, you will take a final Pre-Algebra assessment that will also factor in to your placement.
This pre-algebra work is a mix of standards from 6-8th grades, some of it will be a review. It is extra work however. You need to complete your current 7th grade materials before you work on pre-algebra. We will have options to meet during Hawk Times on Tuesdays and Wednesdays as well as before school from 7:15-7:55am on Fridays. Students can join these meetings to go over answers, ask questions, get new materials and work together with other pre-algebra students. They do not have to attend every week, but it is best if they make as many as possible.

Our current unit of study is called Organization of the Body and Human Organs Systems. This unit will be broken into several smaller sections. It pertains to the organization of the human body with a focus on how different systems work together so we can accomplish our daily tasks. Currently we are focusing on the digestive system and the nervous system. Here is the LINK to the daily agenda. It will also integrate student learning of the characteristics of life into our everyday lives (obtaining and using energy, responding to stimuli, and homeostasis).
Reminder: students should come to class with their science binder, science journal, writing utensil, planner, Chromebook (in its case), and homework when applicable.
We are currently learning the names of school supplies and after break will be discussing food and the similarities and differences between school lunch in the U.S. vs. school lunch in France.
Herzlich Willkommen in Deutsch 7!
Welcome to German 7. Students are just beginning to learn the sounds and spelling of German words. We are looking for common words and cognates (words that look or sound the same from one language to another).
Students have been greeting one another, reading short texts, and working on setting up their class notebooks. Please review the course syllabus with your student and email me if you have any questions!
Practicing vocabulary continues to be essential to leveling up their language skills. Students have new Quizlet sets on Google Classroom and they should be studying 10-15 minutes of old and new vocabulary per day!
¡Hola a todos! El Día de los Muertos is celebrated in Mexico on November 1 and 2, so in October and November, Spanish 7 students are comparing holiday traditions: Halloween in the U.S. and The Day of the Dead in Mexico. Deceased family members are thought to return home during this time of year, so Mexicans set up altars adorned with photos, foods, and flowers. Students learned about the Aztec/Christian history of the Day of the Dead. Students used tissue paper to make cempasúchil flowers and papel picado, two typical decorations. They also watched an Emmy-nominated Spanish-language documentary on the cempasúchil flower.
We viewed the Disney-Pixar film Coco, and talked about the many references to Mexican culture that exist in the film (from the wrestler El Santo to the artist Frida Kahlo to the hairless dog breed el xolo). Coco's director spent 6 years doing research in Mexico to ensure that the film accurately represents Mexican culture. Students are learning how to describe people and things in Spanish (Es = "He/she is..." / Tiene = "He/she has..." / Le gusta = "He/she likes...").
11/25: REMINDER: Our concert has moved to DECEMBER 18th still starting at 7:00pm Students need to arrive by 6:45pm. There will be no practice log for band students due next week because of the break. We had quite a few chorus students try out for solos yesterday! We can't wait until the concert to show you all the great work we have been doing!
Music 7: Students are learning popular music on keyboards. We do chords as well as note reading and more untraditional mediums of piano learning to help students play songs they want to learn. We learn a bit about drum set and work hard on keeping time using popular music.
Visit the Music Department website for all things music!
Music Schedule: Chorus meets on Mondays &Wednesdays. Band meets on Tuesdays & Fridays. Jazz Band meets on Thursdays. These all take place during Hawk Time at the end of the day.
Instrument Maintenance: The Ellis Music Company comes to school every Tuesday to pick up and drop off instruments in need of repair. They also have supplies available that can be dropped off as well.
It is getting cold outside. If you need assistance purchasing warm clothes, jackets, hats, gloves, or paying a heat bill please reach out. We can assist!
Check Aspen and google classroom with your child regularly. Please teach out with clarifying questions. We are happy to help!
