General Announcements:
Classwork Information
For the weeks of May 4th and May 11th, 2026
This week students will be working on and performing skits! These skits are the end of unit summative project for our unit on Japan. While it is a group project, students will be assessed on their own work, not the work of their groupmates. The rubric and project overview are available on Google Classroom as well as all the documents students are working on to put their skits together. Performances will begin second half of class Wednesday and will finish up on Thursday.
Reminder: students should come to class with their World History binder, a writing utensil, planner, Chromebook, and homework when applicable.
Daily Agendas:
Homework Expectations: Students should be completing 20 minutes of reading Monday - Thursday. Students can choose to read a physical book, ebook, audiobook, newspaper, magazine, etc. They have time during the school day to go down to the library and/or pick a book from my classroom library. They also have access to an online book platform called Sora that has ebooks, audiobooks, and magazines that they should be familiar with at this point.

We are preparing for the Unit 6 Summative asessment this week. One Step & two Step equations and inequalities will be the main focus for this assessment. Students have been practicing in class together as well as independently and as a whole have a solid grasp of these concepts.
We will review more today and students will be given a practice test to complete and use as a guide/notes if they want on the test. The test will be Friday.
Pre-Algebra-
Students who have continued to work on additional math topics during class as well as independently will be taking a "mid-year assessment" next week. This will not be counted toward their grade, but will be scored to see how they are progressing. This will be given during class so they will not need to find extra time outside of class to complete this. This mid-year assessment will allow me to see which topics we need to review in order to best prepare them for Algebra next year. Currently we have been working on equations / inequalities in class, Pre-Algebra students will also be shown linear equations as well as linear inequalities during classtime. They may have additional homework, but the instruction will continue to be provided during classes.
Here is a LINK to the daily agenda for our unit on heredity and genetics. Ever wonder the types of questions students have? Here is a LINK that shares the list of questions students developed that I use to plan out the lessons in the unit. Over the next two weeks students will complete a research project to practice keywords, researching, notetaking, and synthesizing an answer to the question.
Reminder: students should come to class with their science binder, science journal, writing utensil, planner, Chromebook (in its case), and homework when applicable.
In mid-December students demonstrated their knowledge of clothing vocabulary by drawing well-dressed elves and describing them to their classmates. Students also wrote a short story that included descriptions of clothing, arrival times at school and/or home, and included many of the verbs they have acquired including is, has, walks, runs, opens, closes, wears, and sees.
We learned about French holiday traditions and decorated (and ate!) everyone's favorite holiday treat: Bûche de Noël.
In January, we have begun expanding our school supply vocabulary, are practicing asking to borrow these in French, and will discuss our hopes for the future using "Je veux" (I want).
Students have been continuing to learn about schedules in Germany - this time learning about the Tagesablauf, or daily routines. We are adding before- and after school activities to the list!
In this unit, we are learning new vocabulary, time expressions (am Morgen, am Mittag) and how to tell time with the 24-hour clock (Es ist 16 Uhr). Students will be writing about their own Tagesablauf and will compare/contrast how a German routine differs from their own.
We continue to learn some fun German songs as well in order to help students hear the sounds of the language and see/hear what young people in Germany like to listen to.
Practicing vocabulary continues to be essential to leveling up their language skills. Students have new Quizlet sets on Google Classroom and they should be studying 10-15 minutes of old and new vocabulary per day!
¡Felices Fiestas! This winter, we compared holiday traditions in Spain and the U.S. Why do Spaniards eat 12 grapes on New Year's Eve? How are the Three Kings different from Santa?
In January and February, we will be studying the famous Spanish-language children's song "Los pollitos dicen" ("The little chicks say"). In English, chicks say "peep peep," but in Spanish, they say "pío pío." Students will learn how onomatopoeia differs across languages. Dogs say "woof woof" in English, but "guau guau" in Spanish! Students will practice building simple sentences to describe animals, their habitats, their likes/dislikes, and their sounds. At the end of this unit, students will be able to write a creative story about an animal encounter!
To get ready for Bad Bunny's Super Bowl halftime performance, we studied his use of the sapo concho (a Puerto Rican toad) on his album cover. What does this animal symbolize?

Music Schedule: Chorus meets on Mondays &Wednesdays. Band meets on Tuesdays & Fridays. Jazz Band meets on Thursdays. These all take place during Hawk Time at the end of the day.
Instrument Maintenance: The Ellis Music Company comes to school every Tuesday to pick up and drop off instruments in need of repair. They also have supplies available that can be dropped off as well.
The current U.A. classes end April 20th. Check Aspen for the new class.
If students do or do not want to be in Band, Jazz Band, and/or Chorus next year please let me know. If I don't hear from you I will assume it's the same as this year.
The middle school years are challenging. Students and families can access a therapist through Cartwheel via Zoom.
