Short summary:
Admiral Columbus begins his return voyage home back to Spain after the pintas return. On January 13th a battle occurred on the beach between the Spaniards and a tribe of natives with parrot feathers around their heads. it started out as a simple trade for two bows when an argument broke out and a fight erupted between the two. Columbus said he felt regret but also didn’t because they should fear Christians. on January 16, the true return voyage began. he set course for 56 degrees northeast by east.
on February 3 after observing the north star the Columbus concludes that they are on the right path to Spain. even so he would be passing through the Azores. the admiral liked to keep his distance from places controlled by the Portuguese. February 12th things began to get rough for Columbus's crew. by the night of February 13th Columbus found himself and his crew in the middle of a storm. during that storm his ships were separated. by the 14th the wind just kept getting worse. finally by the 18th they dropped anchor on an island of the Azores. Columbus's crew was arrested and taken into custody but after arguing and demanding, his crew was released. They then headed for Lisbon.
My thoughts:
I was very surprised by the events that occurred in these two pages, so much happened. I think that it was a bad idea to get in an argument with a group of 50 armed natives over two bows. stuff like this doesn't really happen in my life cause we live up in new Hampshire and nothing really goes on up here other than the patriots and the bruins. I've never heard of a fight breaking out here. but the closest thing that I've heard of that actually happened was a small food fight in the mini cafe but that's about it and that's not even that bad. I'm pretty sure if something like what Columbus did happen in modern day civilization then a massive war between Spain and south american would break out.
My questions about the voyage.
1 did anyone die in the storm
2 how badly was the ship damaged in the storm
3 did anyone die in the fight against the tribesmen
