Dear Parents and Guardians,
Welcome to the 2020-2021 school year. So far it has been a very different year but we are adjusting. As you may or may not know, students are not allowed to come to the library to choose books. However, the librarian will be visiting classes and taking book requesta
Library expectations are simple. When a teacher is speaking children should be silent and listening so they do not miss instruction. They should interact with each other and the teacher with respect. Students need to return books on time in their original condition and use the computers and internet appropriately. Students are allowed to "take out" 2 books for 2 weeks and then must renew if they need an additional 2 weeks.
Fourth and fifth grade classes meet once a week with the librarian in their classroom. Usually there is an ongoing book that the librarian reads aloud and then the students are able to "look" for books of their choice on Destiny Discover. From here they can request a book and the librarian will bring it to their classroom. Students also work on research projects with my help in their classroom depending on the curriculum being covered.
I will be visiting sixth grade every week for a lesson usually tied to an historic event. I will be visiting seventh and eighth grades weekly or bi-weekly depending on ELA teacher's preference in their classrooms for book talks, lesson on historical events, and other library lessons. Research for these classes will also be done in class when scheduled by the teacher.
For remote students, they may also request a book through Destiny Discover but this book will be pulled and put in a plastic bag with their name on it and placed at the front desk. The student will be notified that the book may be picked up.
I am looking forward to a successful year. If you have any questions or problems, please send me an email. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
