Using Quarantine to Your Advantage

Unless you live on Mars, you already know that most of the world is going into lockdown due to the coronavirus, and that includes schools as well as places teens enjoy hanging out at, like restaurants or parks. At times it may seem like being cooped up inside for long periods of time is complete torture for some, but if you approach this at a different angle and open up the mind a little bit, then you will be able to let the introvert inside of you run free during quarantine.

Since going outside is slowly becoming a crime, a survey had to be conducted on popular forms of social media such as Reddit, and Discord. The survey asked the readers how the quarantine has been impacting them and if they had been able to catch up on things such as TV shows, video games, or even unwinding from work or school. After one hour, the survey had reached a total of twenty-five answers. The results were overall very positive, with nineteen out of the twenty-five people expressing how the stay at home order has positively impacted them. One user on Discord explained how they have been able to complete unfinished anime, and talk to friends more often now that they have been given the time to do so. Answers like this were popping up everywhere when the survey was put out onto these forms of social media. In fact, these answers were so common, a thought began to form. If a lot of people are expressing how they have been taking full advantage of this quarantine period, what can those who are struggling with immense boredom who aren’t big fans of sitting around and watching shows take from this survey?

Personally, I have been using this time to not only catch up on school work, but to practice instruments as well as drawing and voice acting. However, not everybody is alike, so how can those who wish to conquer their boredom keep themselves intact while being home for periods longer than they are used to? Lots of places like gyms, stores, and restaurants are closed until terror that is COVID-19 has been taken care of, which makes it harder for our extroverted people and gym rats out there to keep themselves occupied during the day. While the choices are limited, there are still a handful of things you can do to keep yourself sane during this dark time in the world. For those who enjoy working out and improving themselves, try upping the reps on situps, or crunches, and try and find creative ways to lift like using full jugs of water, or laundry detergent. Challenging yourself is one of the best things we can do right now during a difficult time such as this one, so don’t hesitate to think outside the box. What if working out isn’t your thing? Well, there are still other ways to get creative while at home. Taking on a new skill is a great way to keep busy. Drawing and writing are crafts that can be lengthy in a positive way, indulging yourself into literature or a work in progress drawing/writing piece can make time fly by like a train. All you have to do is get invested. There are many things that can be done while being stuck inside. Call a distant relative, clean up around the house, do what makes you keep busy while also maintaining a healthy attitude. That’s really all we can do during times like this. Stay safe everyone!
