My name is Nicole Newman and I'm the School Counselor here at Epsom Central School
The 2017-2018 school year will be my second year here at ECS. My role is to help students (K-8) grow academically, socially, and emotionally throughout their time at Epsom Central School. During a school year, I meet with students individually when needed, run groups, and the ultimate goal for this year is to implement classroom guidance lessons following the American School Counseling National Model.
Additionally, I'm the coordinator for both the Student Assistance Team (SAT) and 504 Plans. SAT is composed of a group of specialists that gather together when requested to discuss academic or behavioral concerns that are presented by parents/guardians or teachers. The team's goal is to collaboratively develop a plan to minimize these concerns and help students succeed.
504 Plans are created for students who have a handicapping condition that significantly affects their learning but does not qualify for specialized instruction/special education services. A 504 is created through a collaborative process with parents/guardians and the school to customize a plan listing classroom accommodations that tailor to the student's needs. This gives those students the ability to flourish within the school environment.
I hope everyone has a wonderful school year!
