Every night your child will be bringing home a book to read for reading practice. Please help your child read these books. Your child will be getting a new book each night. They will need to bring that book back to class the next day. If your child forgets their book at home, they will not receive a new book until they've returned the book they left at home.
Spelling Word Practice: Please help your child practice their spelling words at home nightly.
Here are some fun ways to help your child practice their words:
Write the words using rainbow writing. Simply write the words in different colors using markers or crayons. Layer the words to make them look like rainbows.
Play "Oh rats!" Write the words on craft sticks and put them in a cup. Write the words "Oh rats!" on one of the sticks. Have your child pull out a stick and read the word. Then have them spell it. If your child pulls out the "Oh rats!" stick, they have to put all of their sticks back. It's more fun to play this game with someone else. Whoever has the most sticks wins.
Spell the words with play-doh.
Use plastic magnetic letters and a cookie sheet. Spell the words.
Use a dry erase board and dry erase markers to spell the words.
Play "Memory" with your spelling words. Copy the words on index cards 2 times. Lay them out upside down. When you turn over 2 of the same spelling words you get to hold onto them. The player with the most matches wins.
