Chichester RamBots is the VEX IQ competitive robotics team for Chichester Central School. Our competitive team consists of children in grades 5-8. We compete locally and at the state level.
Our competitive team season for 2019-2020 runs from September until early February.
Our training season is from May 2019-June 2019. Our training season is a great time to try out robotics and build your skills prior to the competitive season.
Chichester Central School strives to provide students with opportunities to explore STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics). What better opportunity than to have a hands-on learning experience of STEM being applied to solve a problem and work towards a goal. Team members design/engineer and program their robots.
VEX IQ is a robotics kit that is made of snap together plastic parts, motors, sensors and a small onboard computer. Team members will design and build a robot that they will use to complete tasks in the challenge in order to score as many points as possible. During competition, there will be a driver's challenge where team members drive the robot via remote control in a 60 second challenge. There is also a driver-less challenge where the robot is programmed by the team to complete tasks autonomously. There are also alliance rounds where a team is paired up randomly with other teams at the tournament to try to collaboratively score as many points as possible in that 60-second round. This year's challenge is called Squared Away. See the video below to learn more about the current game and how students compete in rounds at a tournament.
