Welcome letter and Suggested Supply List

Welcome to the Fifth Grade!

We hope that you are enjoying your summer break! We are in the process of getting ready for a new year! We hope you are excited about joining the middle school community!

Our team has had a quiet summer! Mrs. Garcia’s son got married, she spent time with family at the lake, and she enjoyed reconnecting with many former and future students in her “We’re Talking Math” summer session. Mrs. Gianforte enjoyed her gardens, walking, reading and spending time with her family. Ms. Murray spent time with her family in the White Mountains, swimming and kayaking; she also enjoyed leading a virtual fantasy book illustration group. Ms. Adams enjoyed her porch, walking and spending time with family. Mrs. Turner is enjoying her summer with family and friends. Ms. Brown spent some fun days at the beach, and had a blast running a virtual creative writing club with some RJH students. We look forward to hearing about your summer vacation when classes resume!

In the coming year, we will be studying indigenious peoples, explorers, early colonies and the road to the American Revolution in social studies. In language arts, you will read many new books, write stories and essays and experience digital literacy as well. In math, you will strengthen your problem solving and fluency skills, and you will be given the opportunity to connect the how to the why it works. In science, you will use your observations to understand the world around you. We have some tools, such as our weather station and electronics, to enhance the learning process and challenge your creativity.

Fifth Grade Supply List

Due to the change in our current health situation, we will be asking students not to share items. It would be helpful if the students can get their own suggested supplies that they can keep in their own desk. Students will only be using lockers for their outerwear. All materials will be stored in their desk and their backpack which can hang from their chair.

The school will not be providing an agenda this year. The team will work with students to make use of digital tools and/or the students can purchase or make their own agenda.
