Title 1 Teachers at Jaffrey Grade School 2018-2019

  • Jaffrey Grade School is a school wide Title 1 Program. Students chosen are those who would benefit from small group instruction, and need extra help filling in the gaps of reading, writing, phonics, spelling or math. Title 1 groups are formed when a classroom teacher has a concern about a child. Students are also chosen through the analysis of data, and the RTI team approach.
  • Title 1 groups are not set in stone, and can change depending on the needs of the students. A student may need only interim support, while others might need long-term support. Title 1 teachers use on-going progress monitoring to determine the needs and levels of the students.
  • Title 1 Reading Groups use researched based materials such as LLI (Leveled Literacy Intervention), Fundations by Wilson, and Intervention by Design.
  • Title 1 Math Groups use a variety of hands on materials (cuisensaire rods, base 10 blocks), and can do pre-teaching and reteaching of concepts. It is important to develop number sense and number concepts. Title 1 teachers develop various strategies that will help children learn the "why" of math. Title 1 teachers have had significant workshops through Dr. Mahesh Sharma.
  • Title 1 teachers may also be co-teaching and working with the classroom teacher to increase differentiation and promote customized learning.
