Assignments must be placed in student's Google folder, shared with teacher and paraeducators, as soon as they are created.
Sharing assignments is essential to the team being able to ensure students understand assignments, can receive assistance and follow their progress. Assignments that are not shared, cannot be seen and are assumed to not have been done. Students are required to share their assignments with:
Their classroom teacher.
Any para-educator(s) or special education teachers assigned to work with them.
REQUIRED
Large ring binder with inside pockets that can hold class journals, all four one subject notebooks and zipped pencil case will be kept inside the binder. Please do not purchase multiple subject notebooks. Zippered binder with a handle is preferred since book bags are not allowed in class.
1 single subject notebook for each core class (English, Science, Math, Social Studies). Please do not purchase a multi-subject notebook to be used for all classes.
Box of pencils (pens are not used in class)
Box of colored pencils
RECOMMENDED
Pencil storage case
Small pencil sharpener that contains the shavings
Fine black and red sharpie or flair pens
Personal hand sanitizer and spare in locker
Personal packages of tissues
Reusable water bottle - filling station in the 6th/7th grade hallway
Headphones/Earbuds (to be used when allowed in class)
While masks are not required, we ask that students continue to have a face mask that fits well with them so that they can put one on in class when teachers are in close proximity to students as they evaluate work and give extra help, during student-teacher conferencing at the teacher's desk, during group projects or at any time teachers feel the extra protection may be warranted.
Easy-to-use written calendar organizer.
IMPORTANT
Locker visits will be limited and students should bring all of their supplies with them to each class, rather than expect to go to lockers before every class.
Book bags, backpacks and purses are NOT allowed in class. They must be kept in lockers. All students will be given a lock and should use it. Students should have a zippered binder that contains all their supplies to bring to each class. Supplies must be contained as much as possible. Students will be required to bring all of these supplies to every class, every day.
Students will be moving directly from one class to the next with no hallway/locker time. They will only be visiting lockers upon arrival, before/after lunch and at dismissal, for safety and sanitation reasons.
* DONATE: We welcome donations of mild liquid soap to the science classroom, which has a sink for hand washing.
Any Time Student Masks Are Required At School (this may change throughout the school year)
If a student's face is exposed, they will receive an automatic detention after school. Repeated reminders will result in further consequences.
Masks/face coverings must be worn in all common spaces and while traveling through buildings for students in grades 1-12.
People wearing face coverings should not touch their eyes, nose, mouth, or face, or adjust their face covering without first sanitizing hands. After touching face or adjusting face covering, hands must be sanitized.
3+ foot (or as stated by administration) separation is maintained whenever possible for both staff and students.
Modifications made to classroom setup and furniture to encourage social distancing.
Limited access to bathrooms allowing only 2 students in at the same bathroom at the same time.
These rules may be amended as needed at any time.
Students:
You are expected in class every day for every class. Middle school students will follow the school schedule, even in the event of a remote learning day.
Be respectful with teachers and classmates in the classroom and in the virtual classroom. Paraeducators should be treated with the same respect as teachers and administrators.
Check school Gmail daily, several times if possible. Communication may come throughout the day.
Get assignments each morning, ask questions, stay on top of assignments.
Check in on Hangouts chat during office hours to ask questions or just check in with teachers.
Complete assignments on time. Falling behind makes catching up on work very difficult. Stay after school if you need help.
Hangouts chat and Meet video chat are for school purposes only, not as a social media platform to talk with classmates, unless it's a class discussion session.
Know how to access and use Power School and check grades regularly. Google Classroom does not reflect permanent grades.
Help the adults at home with school applications. Take a breath, read the directions and then read them again. If you have questions, don't panic, you can ask a student or a teacher for help!
Internet etiquette = "Netiquette". This short video reviews appropriate online behavior and why it's important to be thoughtful in how you speak with classmates and teachers. Most of our 7th graders are doing a great job of this and saying "thank you"!
PowerSchool
Students have their username, password and district access code. They are expected to check their grades regularly.
Parents should have their own access to PowerSchool, but can always ask their student to log into their school account and show their grades from there. Grades should be checked regularly to make sure all work is being completed.
Google Classroom
Students have a list of assignments with due dates and status.
"Turned In" - Student has passed in an assignment. This does not mean it has been accepted or graded.
"Missed" - Student has not passed in the assignment.
"✔︎" (Returned Work) - Work has been returned to the student for revision, completion, or because no assignment was attached. (See "returned work" below.)
Grades on Google Classroom are a general grade showing completion. Grades on PowerSchool show the permanent grade.
REASONS A STUDENT'S WORK CAN BE "RETURNED" IN GOOGLE CLASSROOM
Teachers may return work to students for many reasons. Part of our job is not only teaching the material, but also routines, procedures and acceptable work habits.
Parents, we do not expect for you to learn all the applications and procedures. Students have been working in these online programs all year. Doing this at home is new, but the work and expectations are not. Online school is school. We want your student to do their best work. We care about them. It's our job. Details are important and following written and verbal directions and responding well in writing, is of critical importance in the work force. If they have questions, please ask them to get on Hangouts during teacher office hours and ask us for assistance...after they have thoroughly read the directions.
These are some reasons work can be returned:
REASONS WORK CAN BE "RETURNED" IN GOOGLE CLASSROOM
Teachers may return work to students for many reasons. Part of our job is not only teaching the material, but also routines, procedures and acceptable work habits. These are some of the reasons work may be returned to a student:
Work was submitted as "done", but no document was attached.
Images of an assignment are not clear or are not rotated to be viewed upright.
Screenshot image is of the entire desktop, not just the work.
Work is not submitted through the specific assignment on Google Classroom.
Directions were not followed.
Work is submitted under the wrong assignment.
Work is incomplete or missing components.
Work was not shown (Math).
The document is not correctly titled so teachers and paraeducators can locate and identify it as the assignment. All work is given a specific assignment title.
"Copy of" is not removed from the document title.
Teacher's name is not removed from the document title.
Student's name is not on the document title.
Work was not submitted in the student's core class work folder or was sent via email. All work must be turned in on G.C.
It is clear that the student did not read the assignment, watch the video or do other work required.
Work is submitted in more than one document. All work including attachments should be consolidated into one document.
Student left questions about an assignment as a comment and submitted that as the assignment.
Insufficient work was completed (IWS). More work must be done to receive a minimum grade.
Students should:
Masks are currently optional. This may change. It is recommended that student have a mask available with them for close contact work. Young people, even those vaccinated, can get COVID-19. We want you to be safe and healthy.
Check Google Classroom every morning for their assignments. Go to the GC site, don't just read the emails generated when a post is created (may be edited). Not visiting the actual site means missing explanations, questions answered and any changes made. Do the assignment and pass it in each day.
Read the directions carefully before asking a question or telling a parent they don't understand the assignment. The answer to most questions is in the directions.
Check in on Hangouts class groups during classroom hours if classes are remote. (Students only.)
Ask for help and contact a teacher privately on Hangouts if they need detailed instructions or need to discuss a personal issue.
Write complete sentences including capitalization and punctuation when asking questions on Google Classroom. It is not social media and text abbreviations are not acceptable.
Ask questions of teachers and paraeducators as needed, to ensure they can complete work.
Complete work in a timely manner.
Check grades on PowerSchool regularly.
Be patient with teachers, paraeducators and other adults in their lives who are also adjusting to the virtual classroom. Students have been working with most of these applications all year, their parents have not. Take a deep breath and don't panic.
Accept Help: You can do this. We will help you. Let us help you!
Share the assignments being worked on with the teacher and paraeducator.
Parents/Guardians:
The 7th grade team prefers that parents contact teachers via email. Please do not contact teachers using Hangouts or Google Classroom. We reserve these methods of contact for students.
You can use your access information to check grades on PowerSchool to ensure students are completing work. Students also have their own access codes, do you can always ask them to show you their grades through their own account. Please be patient because teachers are now receiving assignments from more than one source and recording grades on three platforms.
Please be patient and respectful with teachers. We are receiving an enormous amount of emails in addition to student chat, writing new curriculum, finding new resources, assisting students and parents in using applications, meeting with paraeducators, problem-solving technical issues, having online meetings, keeping track of parent communication and more. We know you are being stretched too. We're all in this together. With kindness, we can do this. We always have your student's best interest in mind.
Tips To Help Students
Students with a phone...
Add the Gmail app to your phone - strongly recommended!
Assignment notifications from teachers on Google Classroom assignments go to your school email.
All assignments on Google Classroom are automatically added to your Google Calendar.
Easily move photos of outdoor observations, projects and other assignments to core class folders on Google Drive.
Wondering if your student has completed their assignments?
Ask to see the document, slideshow or project your student is working on in Google Drive and the document with the directions and requirements they're supposed to complete. If they cannot provide a completed assignment, there's a very good chance it has not yet been done.
Ask your student to show you that the assignment has been shared with their teacher and any para-educators that they work with. All students with IEPs should have a para-educator assigned to work with them. (Click on the blue "share" button in the top right corner of the document to see who it has been shared with.)
How to contact teachers
Contact with teachers is via email and phone. Google Classroom, Hangouts Chat and Meet video conferencing are restricted to students only. This is the best way to reach teachers and ensure contact is received. Teachers are only available via email during remote learning.
To access the District Device Agreement:
1. Log into Power School using your parent access code. Do not login as the student.
2. Go to the side menu and click on FORMS. The side menu is always showing on a desktop computer. If you're on a phone, you have to click on the little tab on the left side to make the menu show.
3. Click on DISTRICT DEVICE AGREEMENT form.
4. Fill out, and hit SUBMIT!
* All students need a computer. All work is done online in the classroom. Books are not accessible due to possible contamination and quarantine.
* Students require use of their computer in class every day and must arrive at school with their computer fully charged.
MONDAY - FRIDAY
Should school be moved to remote learning, we will be following the daily in-school schedule. Students will be required to attend daily classes from home, using their Chromebook, as they would during a normal school day.
Students must be logged into their school Google account
If you're already logged into a different student or adult Google account, click on the profile photo.
Profile photo > add another account > login.

Computers vs. Tablets (during remote learning)
Students using Chromebooks are less stressed when using technology, due to their experience in using these computers at school. iPads and other tablets may vary in terms of functionality and differ from the directions given by teachers.
To alleviate some stress, it is strongly recommended that students working virtually from home borrow a Chromebook from the school. If they are using their own computer at home, they may have to do research to determine how to do some functions, such as screenshots, on their own computer. Students and parents are responsible for learning how to perform these functions on their home technology.
MASKS ARE OPTIONAL as we begin the 2021/22 school year.
DO NOT MOVE DESKS.
NO PHONES. Shut off before entering the building, left in lockers or at home, not used during school.
NO PERSONAL ELECTRONICS including any watch with internet capabilities (iWatch) and video games.
Fill water bottles before school, right before or after lunch.
LOCKER VISITS: Upon arrival at school, before/after lunch and at dismissal.
Go directly to classrooms upon arrival. Do not linger in halls or at lockers.
Please keep snacks or lunches with nuts, seeds, peanut butter out of classrooms.
Stay in your assigned seat, facing forward. We are still being COVID cautious, protective of the health of all.
Do not enter any classroom when an adult is not present.
Do not touch anything on or in teacher desks. Do not go behind teacher desks.
Have all of your supplies every day.
Respect other people's belongings. Do not touch or take them. Rules about shared supplies and group work may vary from class to class and grade to grade and may change throughout the year following current health recommendations.
No hats or hoods.
No guns, violence, alcohol, drugs or sexual content images, text or logos on attire, including masks and belt buckles.
