Syllabus
HBMS 2024-2025
Course Description:
Welcome Mathematicians! Students will become familiar with the basic concepts of pre-algebra using a step-by-step approach. Students will apply these concepts as needed to mathematical problems. Students will also meet the standards set for learning Grade 7 math in the state of New Hampshire.
Standards:
Ratio and Proportional Relationships, Numbers and Operations, Expressions and Equations, Functions and Linear Relationships, Geometry, Measurement, Probability and Statistics.
Objectives:
Algebra and Whole Numbers
Rational Numbers
Basic Operations and Rational Expressions
Basic Operations and Rational Equations
Ratios, Proportions and Percents
Integers
Exponents, Square Roots, and Pythagorean Theorem
Equations from Geometry
Graphing
Data, Statistics, and Probability
Grading:
The final grade will be determined on the basis of the student's performance on homework, classwork, quizzes, projects, and tests.
Homework (10%) Homework assignments offer students an opportunity to think about problems more in-depth. Homework assignments are very important and are assigned just about every day. Students will have the opportunity to revise their answers as we discuss problems.
Formative Assessments (40%) Assessments that gather information about students' learning that are used to track progress such as: warm-ups, class work, open-ended questions, problem-solving activities, worksheets, and exit tickets.
Summative Assessment (50%) Assessments that show what students have learned throughout the unit such as: projects, quizzes, concept checks, and tests. Students will be asked to communicate their understanding and summarize the concepts learned. The grading scale is the district scale.
Expectations:
All students are expected to bring the required materials (notebook, binder, pencil, homework, and agenda) to class every day and work cooperatively with others. All rules will be followed from the student handbook.
Resources:
We will utilize resources from the following collection to best support the curricular goals of the class, stimulate academic growth, and foster critical thinking: Big Ideas Math Accelerated, Pre-Algebra Curriculum (All things Algebra), Mathantics.com, Mathshell.org, Yummymath.com, citizenmath.com, Sunshine Math: Neptune Grade 7 core, Desmos, Explorelearning.com, https://www.maneuveringthemiddle.com/ Insidemathematics.org/performance-assessment-tasks .
