School-Wide Expectations:

1. Manage Yourself

2. Cooperate with others

3. Respect personal and public property

4. Act in a healthy and legal manner

Common Team Summit Expectations:

in order to be SUMMIT STRONG, we are...

This means... I am kind to everyone. I listen to others. I take care of the classroom.

This means... I bring materials to class. I complete assignments on time. I problem solve solutions.

This means... I follow directions promptly. I give my best effort. I stay focused on the task.

Class Overview and Grading:

Please refer to individual teacher websites and/or their Google Classrooms to see a class overview and grading practices. There is a link to the team teacher's websites on the "Team Teachers" page of this site (see navigation bar at top of page). Google Classrooms can be viewed by asking your child to give you a tour!

Classroom Behavior:

Every student has the right to have the best possible learning environment. If a student interferes with that learning environment, steps will be taken to correct that. Additionally, teachers may need to be in contact with parents.

Tardiness to Class:

1. By October, we expect that you will be comfortable with the building (and your locker) and be able to make it to all classes on time. If you are not in the classroom with your required materials by the bell, you will be considered tardy.

2. Once you have been tardy three times for the same class, you will receive a lunch detention.

Reassessment Procedure:

Skills (study hall):

1. Skills is a time for QUIET work. It is a time for homework, extra help, make-up of assignments, library research, and/or silent reading.

2.  The first ten minutes of skills classes will be for silent reading. Students should be reading their "Book Love" book from English class.

3. If you are going to work with a teacher, you must make arrangements ahead of time AND have a pass from that teacher to present to your skills teacher. Please note that many of your teachers will not be available during your skills time.

4. Remember, if you were absent, it is your responsibility to check in with your teachers. Skills is the perfect time to do that!

Textbooks & Chromebooks:

1. Books and chromebooks are to be treated respectfully.

2. Books should be covered according to teacher instructions if applicable.

Homework:

1. Students should carry ONE two-pocket homework folder around to all classes (along with your agenda). All paper copies of homework should go in this folder!

2. Homework should take up 70 minutes per night (at the most) without interruptions.  This includes all subjects (core classes and specials - although not all classes will assign homework each day).  Keep in mind that students do have a skills period four times a week to work on their homework assignments, so they should not be coming home with 70 minutes of work!

3. Homework must be in class (paper assignments) or turned in via Google Classroom (if digital) on the date/time it is due. Please see individual teachers' grading practices for specific class information.

Absent Work:

1. Students who are absent are encouraged to check teacher websites/Google Classroom and/or reach out to the teacher via email before returning to school.

2. Students who are absent are responsible for checking in with all core teachers during skills class the day they return to school.

3. Work that is due on the day a student has missed is due the day they student returns to school.

Extra Help:

1. You are encouraged to ask questions when you don’t understand something.

2. If you need extra help, it is your responsibility to seek out the teacher and make arrangements.

3. HBMS offers a homework club after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays. See the HBMS site for more info.
