Grade 6 Resources

September/October session will focus on the learning and practicing the ASSERT formula to promote an empowering means for students to successfully problem solve interpersonal conflicts with peers. The class activity will allow students to practice the self-advocacy skills they will need for making responsible decisions with peers. Students will also review social media practices for responsible digital citizenship.

November/December sessions will focus on goal setting skills. 6th grade students will review previous years goal setting lessons in order to complete a self-reflective goal survey inventory. Students will identify ways to maintain a positive mindset when achieving goals. Students will also participate in a classroom activity to demonstrate how involvement in rumors (face to face and cyber) can have a negative impact in personal reputations and how this can lead to bullying behavior.

January/February sessions will focus on establishing goals that have a positive impact on the world around them. Students will view MLK's "I Have a Dream" speech to illustrate how one person's hopes and dreams can turn in to a positive goal for change and equality for all. Students will explore how to develop their own goals that can have a positive effect on the world around them.
