Kindergarteners need to play. They have a very busy schedule at school filled with learning. One of the most important things you can do for you child is encourage time for play. Being outdoors and participating in sports or other physical activities is important for physical health and social/emotional development. Active Free Play builds strong bodies, helps with brain development, fosters creativity and problem solving.
Reading
Listening to you read stories will help your child develop a strong understanding of the ways stories work, build comprehension skills, and is the foundation to becoming a lifelong reader. Please read to your child nightly. In addition to family read-alouds, your child will bring home printed books we have read in class. Please keep these in a bag or shoe box and have your child practice reading. Word Study practice will be sent home in your child's folder. Look for "Dear Caregiver" letters for fun activities and extra practice.
