About Me

Edgar Allan Poe statue & I in Boston

Thanks for wanting to find out more about me! Lucky for you, you'll hear a lot more throughout the school year because writing and literature lend themselves to exploring the individual. I share as you share!

I'm the Team Titan English teacher, and I have the best job in the world. I've been lucky enough to teach at HBMS for the past 11 years. I can't believe I'm going into my 12th year here! The school is my home away from home. I try to make my classroom as cozy as possible since I spend so much time there, and you will too.

All I knew when I entered college was that I wanted to major in English. I wanted to read and write...and then read and write some more. Crazy? Maybe. A high school English teacher of mine said that we better love what we want to do for the rest of our lives. So that is what I did at Suffolk University in Boston, MA for 4 years. I loved living in Boston - the noise, taking the T, the people, and so much more. I'm definitely in love with the city.

Teaching was always in the back of my mind, but I wasn't ready to commit until it came time to graduate! I spent some time substitute teaching during college breaks for money at the middle school I went to, and in one middle school English class the kids were reading The Secret Life of Bees. As I looked around the room I thought, "This would be the best job ever!" It turns out that I was 100% correct. I didn't exactly enjoy my own middle school experience, so I feel like I am making up for that as a middle school teacher.

After graduating college, I spent another 2 years getting my Masters of Arts Teaching in Secondary English back home in NH at UNH. Before coming to HBMS, I interned for a year in a 7th grade classroom in Bedford, NH and subsequently taught 8th grade there for 2 years. In 2014 and 2015 my first two classes of students graduated from BHS. I finally attended my first class of students graduating from HBHS in June of 2017!
