What to do now and before returning back to school:
1) Contact your child’s physician
2) Seek COVID 19 testing (PCR or Antigen). See below for testing sites
3) If you do not seek testing or if you test positive, see instructions below for Self-Isolation and discuss with nurse when you can return
COVID 19 Symptoms: Any person who is experiencing even mild symptoms of COVID-19 should be tested. Symptoms may include any of the following: fever, cough, sore throat, runny nose, shortness of breath, fatigue, chills, muscle aches, loss of taste and smell, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and, in severe cases, difficulty breathing.
COVID 19 Testing: You can now request to be tested even if you are asymptomatic. To request a test (PCR or Antigen), contact your healthcare professional or find other testing options on the NH COVID-19 website. Antigen test results are available the same day.
COVID 19 Test Information from NHDHHS
Self-Isolation: Any person with COVID-19 compatible symptoms who is not tested and can be safely managed at home (i.e., does not require hospitalization) should be instructed to self-isolate until: At least 10 days have passed since symptoms first appeared AND at least 1 day (24 hours) has passed since recovery* (*Recovery is defined as a resolution of fever without the use of fever-reducing medications, and improvement in respiratory symptoms.)
Close Contacts: At school a person is considered a “close contact” to a person with COVID-19 if they were within 3 feet of the infected person for at least 15 minutes or longer cumulatively within a 24 hour period.
Close Contact and Self-Quarantine: It can take up to 14 days from the time someone is exposed to develop symptoms of COVID-19.
People who do not have symptoms but have been notified that they may have been exposed through close contact with a person with COVID-19 that is not a household member follow those guidelines and should get tested in about 5 days from exposure.
Any persons who has traveled internationally or via cruise ship, follow the travel guidelines.
Close household contacts that are unvaccinated must stay home (self-quarantine) for 10 days from the last day of potential exposure. This may require a 10 day + 10 day quarantine.
Safe Return to School Protocol Post Student Dismissal with Covid-19 Related Symptoms:
If your child is absent or dismissed from school due to Covid-19 symptoms, DHHS recommends that you obtain a COVID test . Symptoms of illness need to be resolved or improving so that your child can fully participate in their education. Please provide the test results and contact the school nurse prior to return. If you do not obtain Covid 19 testing a 10 day isolation protocol is recommended.
Safe Return to School Protocol If Your Child Has Been in Quarantine ( Household contact is COVID positive) or Isolation (COVID positive):
You will need confirmation from the school nurse that your child has completed quarantine and is clear to return to school. Please do not send your child on the bus or drop your child off until you have received confirmation from the nurse.
