The FAQs below provide some general information on common questions about contributing to The Hawk.
What do I have to do to get involved?
Just come to a meeting or talk to Dr. Gott in the Learning Commons.
How often does The Hawk meet?
We meet weekly on Thursdays right after school in the Learning Commons.
What happens at the meetings?
Our meetings go through a cycle.
First we decide on article topics. Then we write and edit. Then we figure out the layout. Then we publish. The cycle repeats as many times as we can throughout the school year.
How long are these articles?
Articles can be anywhere from a half to a full page typed, double-spaced. It is great if you have a photo to go with your story.
Do I have to be in a journalism class to work on the magazine?
No.
Do I have to contribute to every issue?
No. You can contribute as much or as little as you'd like.
What do I get out of it?
You get to see your name in print, collect articles you published into a portfolio, learn the school and talk to people you've never met before. Plus, it looks great on your college application.
How do I know when the next meeting is?
Just listen to the morning announcements.
If you have some more questions, or can't attend the meeting but have an article you want to write, please e-mail the.hawk@sau26.org. The editor or advisor will get back to you.
