Writing

assignments 5/18/20-5/22/20

Grab your notebook or open a new word document and title it Biome Journal.

You are now in your chosen biome with your backpack of materials. Use what you’ve learned in your research and use your creativity to write me a journal entry (at least 5 good sentences) about EACH question:

Day 1 Entry: You’ve just arrived in your biome. Describe what you see, hear, and smell. What’s your plan to survive? What tools or supplies in your backpack will help you?

Day 2 Entry: How hungry are you? How do you solve that problem? Tell me about your search for water. Where did you find it? How did you use it?

Day 3 Entry: As you sit near your shelter, what animals can you see? Which can help you? Which can harm you? What plants are growing near your shelter? Which ones are safe? Which are dangerous?

Day 4 Entry: Describe your shelter. How did you build it? What materials and tools did you use? How was sleeping in it?

End of the year memory book coming soon! *Focus on your journal for right now :)

I'd love to hear what you've been up to, something exciting you've done, how you're feeling, or anything else you feel like writing. This is a great opportunity to practice spelling your sight words correctly and to practice using correct capitalization and punctuation! I can't wait to read them!

Assignment 3/30/20-4/3/20

Write a creative story!

Before we begin our unit on opinion writing, the task for students this week is to write a creative story! I have watched so many of my students all year spend countless minutes during indoor recess, snack time, dismissal, etc. creating stories filled with adventure, action, fascinating characters, and so much more.

This week their challenge is to hone their creative writing skills by piecing together a story that has interesting characters, an intriguing setting, and a series of events that take place in logical order.

I can't wait to see where their imaginations take them! Happy writing my 3rd graders!

*If students type their stories, they can share them with me. If they choose to write them, you can scan them into the computer (they have apps on phones or use a printer) OR you can hold onto it until we know more about work collection.
