4-14-21 Message from the Superintendent

Dear GRS and MVS Communities:

To address the recent Governor's order that all students will have the option to return to 5 days a week in-person instruction, we have devised the following plan.

  • April 23 will be a day off for students while the staff takes the day to plan and prepare for a return to 5-day, in-person instruction.

  • Schools will have enough instructional hours at the end of the year, so students will not need to make up this day, and the last day of school will remain the same.

  • Beginning the week of May 3, instruction will be in person, five days a week.

This plan was approved by the Milan and GRS Cooperative School Boards.

10-30-20 Message from Superintendent of Schools SAU #20

Dear SAU 20 Community:

Due to rapidly rising community transmission levels, All SAU 20 Schools will remain in remote instruction for two weeks. Re-evaluation for re-opening will occur on or before November 12.

Over the next several days, you will receive more detailed information regarding remote instruction, meals, and other specifics from your child’s school. Please be sure to check the SAU and your school’s websites for up to date information. Please also check your town’s website for new information regarding this quickly changing situation.

We knew that being in “Yellow” was a possibility this year, and we have been planning for this situation for months. Teachers are ready, and they have been preparing their students since the first day of school. That said, this has been an incredibly tough decision for all of us as we deeply understand its impact on our community and students. We all need to work together to slow down the spread in our region. If we all follow the CDC guidelines, we will have a better chance of slowing the rate of positive tests and getting our students back into school soon and safely.

David Backler, Superintendent

We are all both anxious about the future and excited to be in the final stages of our journey to Graduation, promotion to High School, and the freedoms and rejuvenation of summer. The Admin. & Staff at GMHS are working tirelessly on plans that address the many 'IFs' foisted upon us by the COVID-19 pandemic situation. As we travel this journey together, it is important to be patient and show grace to one another. We are a strong community and together we will celebrate our accomplishments.

Updates:

  • The Commissioner of Education was meeting with the Dept. of Health and Human Services this week, but has not released a statement as of yet. This could be good news. IF there is any way under new guidelines that we can have outside, socially distanced, safe experiences we will. But, at this time we are creating preliminary plans in accordance with the stay-at-home and social distancing orders set forth by the Governor. So, to quote the author, Lee Child, we will 'Hope for the best, and plan for the worst".

  • Admin met with the Senior Class officers today. We discussed plans to host live-streamed event(s) like gold tassel, baccalaureate, class day, and graduation.

      • IF the Governor's orders are less restrictive in time for graduation or later in the summer, we may hold a responsibly planned, socially distanced, in person event outdoors.

  • Prom has been postponed.

      • IF the Governor's orders are set to least restrictive later in the summer, we may hold an outdoor prom.

  • Yearbook is making plans for a virtual dedication ceremony and a safe, socially distanced plan for the distribution of yearbooks.

  • Grade 8 Promotion: Middle School team meets Tuesday to discuss plans.

  • Honor Society induction will be postponed until Fall.

  • Step Up Day & End of Year Awards: Admin & Staff will discuss mid-May.
