To My Students:
First of all, I love teaching and learning about science. I think is innate in all of us. We all carry curiosities about the world around us. What is true about the world and how do we find out? How do we get answers to our questions? Science of course! Science literally means "to know."
Sience is a systematic process for understanding and explaining the natural world using evidence and reasoning. We use science to find out what's true and what's not true.... or at least to find out what true beyond a reasonable doubt. The scientific process is a universal language in a way. It's how we solve problems in our daily lives and how society solves even larger problems. Basing our decision making on evidence through science is the foundation of a functional democracy. It's how we discover and create. It's the reason many of us are alive today with the standard of living we are lucky to have.
I strive to have a positive influence on all my students. I want to know your child in a meaningful way. I want to inspire them. I think science can be a great source of unification among people. Science can bring countries together and work together to solve some of the largest problems of our day like overpopulation, pollution, disease, climate change, and habitat destruction. If I'm lucky enough to have you in class, I hope you love it!
