Class Overview

The goal of CMS 8th grade curriculum is to further develop technology skills for both academic learning and personal productivity in becoming college and career ready in the the 21st century. Through comprehensive projects, students work to advance their skills in research and citing sources, keyboarding, coding, spreadsheets, and digital presentations. In addition, students will examine real-life scenarios demonstrating the importance of responsible decision making when using technology and understand the potential consequences and dangers of the Internet.

Website Portfolio

Students create a website using “New” Google Sites to create a portfolio to highlight their work throughout their CMS experience. They will use this site for reflection and presentation in a student led conference.

Spreadsheets

Students take real world data and, using Google Spreadsheets, will create various charts and graphs to evaluate and understand data.

Naviance

Working in tandem with our Guidance Department, students take a personality/aptitude assessment, learn about careers that fit into their personality profile and add items to their resumes.

Keyboarding

Students practice and build keyboarding skills for accuracy and speed with the purpose of memorizing the keys in an ergonomically correct position. They have brief, weekly assessments to show progress and provide data for success.

Digital Footprint

Students take part in discussion, videos and reading about building their Digital Footprint. This will include examining information about Social Media and cell phones (possible addictions), cyberbullying, and basic Internet Safety. We will use the program Netsmartz Teens for supplemental information and activities.
