Mathematics
It's true - math education may have changed quite a lot since your own days in school. In today's classroom, students are presented with challenging problems and are asked to think about them, discuss with peers, and work collaboratively to solve them. Students explain their thinking and may even work to "convince" others to see it the same way.
In grade 2, students are also working on math fact fluency. Knowing the addition and subtraction facts quickly will help students to solve word problems and other multi-step problems.
Each student will have access to the Math In Focus online site. Account information will be sent home during the first few weeks of school and will be listed on the back of the student's HOOT Binder.
Bar Models - We will be learning about bar models in November,and we will be working with them more later this year. The addition and subtraction bar model practice on this site is a great way for students to have fun while learning!
