Math In Focus

Our school will be using the Math in Focus program again this year. This program uses a concrete-pictorial-abstract approach to learning. Extensive online components are excellent supplements to this program and can help support skill development at home. Significant concepts taught in third grade are multiplication and division, fractions, and two-step world problems.

Instructional Videos

To allow your student extra practice with the concepts we are studying in class, I have created a series of instructional videos that mirror our in-class lessons. These are an optional resource for extra practice, as well as an opportunity for families to see what we are learning in class.

School-to-Home Connections

School-to-home connections helps to facilitate communication between teachers and families to help parents / guardians support their child's experiences in math at home. Take advantage of these opportunities to help your child build confidence as well as communication in math skills by practicing newly acquired skills at home. Just click on the link, select the current chapter of study, and encourage your child's efforts by taking advantage of opportunities to use math in everyday situations! Concrete-Pictorial-Abstract

Numbers and symbols can be confusing when you don't have a grasp of what they actually mean. Singapore math teaches concepts using a concrete–pictorial–abstract learning progression to anchor learning in real-world, hands-on experiences.
