After - School - Club Information

I am very excited to be offering the After-School-Club for the tenth year. This year the After-School-Club will be open to sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students. It will still be on Tuesday and and every other Thursday afternoons, from 2:30 to 4:30. This will be starting in the month of October.

Just like in previous years, the primary focus of the After-School-Club is going to be on homework and project completion, and schedule organization. Students will be expected to come to the A.S.C. with their agenda books, and necessary materials. In the beginning of each afternoon, I will be checking their agenda books to see what they need to be working on. If nothing is written down, I will try to contact the subject teacher to confirm any work. I also encourage all of the teachers to e-mail or contact me if there are specific assignments that need to be worked on.

If students do not have any homework, they will be expected to read for twenty to thirty minutes. I highly encourage students to bring the book they are reading for their classes, or free choice book.

Half way through the session, students will be offered a snack and a drink. This is usually a ten to fifteen minute process where students are given a few minutes to eat their snack and take a break from their homework. If homework is still not completed at this time, the students will be expected to go back to completing their assignments. If homework is completed, then they will be able to engage in a free time activity. Every other week is a devise week when students can use their devises during free time to play games. On no devise weeks, students will be able to play board games or just chat during free time.

It is very important that both parents and participating students are aware of the expectations, and agree to them. If a student does not agree or follow the rules, I will either restrict the student from attending until he/she can agree to the rules, or ask that he or she no longer attend. With only myself to assist the students, it is extremely important for students to be able to work independently, without needing constant prompting.

After-School-Club will be starting on Tuesday, October 17th, and then on Thursday, October 19th. Both afternoons will last until 4:30, although it is not mandatory for students to stay until 4:30.

If your student is interested in attending, please fill out and return the attached permission slip. Also, please make sure that a parent arrives promptly to pick up his or her student.

I look forward to another beneficial and successful After-School-Club year!

Ms. Harriman,

Sixth Grade, Special Education Teacher
