Welcome to Sixth Grade Math!

Curriculum

Sixth grade students will use the Math In Focus curriculum to study the sixth grade math Common Core standards. The program is designed to help students make sense of math problems and persevere when solving them. Learning to model and think mathematically are also important parts of this curriculum.

Sixth grade's primary areas of study are: rates and ratios; multiplication and division of fractions; rational numbers and number lines; variables in expressions and equations; measures of central tendency and variability; area, surface area, and volume; and problem solving skills.

About Me

My name is Mrs. Chivers and I am thrilled to work with you this year on Team Yale! This is my fourth year at Cawley Middle School and my twelfth year of teaching. Before coming to Cawley, I spent five years teaching sixth to eighth math and science in Kigali, Rwanda and three years teaching math in Lawrence, Massachusetts. I have a degree in Middle Level Math and Science (grades 5-8). When I am not teaching, you can usually find me hanging out with my daughter and husband. We like to hike, camp, garden, cook, cross country ski, and ice fish. I cannot wait to get to know you!
